Description

Weronika Bargiel, Dorota Bartusik-Aebisher and David AebisherMedical College of The University of Rzeszów,Rzeszów, PolandPart of the book: The Biochemical Guide to ProteinsAbstractElastin is a unique protein due to its limited synthesis time, long half-life, multi-stage assembly process and a high degree of cross-linking, which provides mechanical flexibility to large arteries. Despite increasing therapeutic opportunities to control diseases such as hypertension, obesity and diabetes, the elastic fiber damage that often accompanies these diseases is now irreparable, meaning that cardiovascular risks from arterial stiffness may persist even when other conditions are present. Aspects of the disease are controlled. Elastin has also been shown to be associated with photoaging and the occurrence of SVAS congenital heart disease – supravalvular aortic stenosis. Keywords: elastin, supravalvular aortic stenosis (SVAS), large latent complex (LLC), elastogenesisReferencesCocciolone AJ, Hawes JZ, Staiculescu MC, Johnson EO, Murshed M, Wagenseil JE.Elastin, arterial mechanics, and cardiovascular disease.
