Weeds are the costliest category of agricultural pests. Worldwide, weeds cause more yield loss and add more to farmers’ production costs than insect pests, crop pathogens, root-feeding nematodes, or warm-blooded pests (rodents, birds, deer, and other large grazers). In particular, weeds are a constant fact of life in agronomic and horticultural crops. The usage of herbicides in India and elsewhere in the world is increasing due to possible benefits to farmers and continuous use of the same group of herbicides over a while on the same piece of land leads to the ecological imbalance in terms of weed shift and environmental pollution. The complexity of these situations has resulted in a need to develop a holistic sustainable eco-friendly weed management program throughout the crop husbandry period. In the era of organic food items, organic farming principles and standards preclude the use of most herbicides, many organic farmers consider weeds their most serious barrier to successful organic production. Intensive agricultural practices, changing climate, and natural disasters affect weed dynamics and that requires a change in weed management protocols in the context of organic-based farming. Today, farmers have a renewed interest in organic methods of managing weeds since the widespread use of agrochemicals has resulted in the purported environment and health problems. With a little diligence and timely weeding, the food growers can turn most weeds into beneficial organic matter. The objectives of the present review are to draw a comprehensive picture of the advanced approaches to organic weeds preventive measures in a crop field. Keywords: bioagent, crop, ecofriendly, organic, weed controlReferencesAbu-Irmaileh, B.
